U16's v Blyth

Blyth 14 – Percy Park 27

Park ran out winners 5 tries to 2 but were never in a position to relax against a determined and well organised Blyth team.

Park started well and dominated possession for the first 10 minutes; however their inability to hold on to the ball (silly passes and poor technique) meant Blyth were always threatening particularly their back row which had the upper hand at the breakdown.  From one such spilled ball Blyth swept up field and scored under the posts 7-0.

U16's v Ponteland

Ponteland 8 - Percy Park 68

Park travelled to Ponteland on Sunday to play the current Northumberland Shield holders in a dress rehearsal of their pending cup-tie. Ponteland were short of a few players so Dan, James Mc and Joseph C deputised for Ponteland in the 1st half.

Almost from the kick off Park were in the ascendency, driving hard at the Ponteland line. Tries followed at regular intervals Ciaran in particular causing chaos every time he got the ball; Marcus make it two tries in two games with another spectacular long range effort on the wing.

U16's v Alnwick

Alnwick 0 – Percy Park 51

Percy Park made the trip up to Alnwick on Sunday for a game played in cold, blustery conditions.

As usual Park were forced to shuffle their players: in the front row Sam Worthing made a start at lose head with Aaron moving out to inside centre; Adam Sams started at hooker with Ross moving to open side and Joe Campbell moved up to second row from back row.

In the backs George Stoddart returned from injury to start at 9 and Jamie Weatherley reverted to the wing.

Playing with the wind Alnwick had the better of the initial exchanges and had Park pinned in their own 22; however Park’s dominance at the scrum and Lineout aligned with the tenacious defence of George enabled them to gain a foothold in the match.

U16's v Novos

Novos 17 –Percy Park 31 (or 36)

Sunday saw Park on the road again when they made the trip to play Novos at Druid Park the previous home of Gosforth RFC.

The game was played with pace, intensity and commitment and was, throughout, an engrossing encounter. So engrossing in fact that between the three Park coaches there was no consensus on the score or try scorers!!

Novos started brightly collecting the kick off and retaining possession for several minutes; Park started dimly, Sam not realising he was meant to be on the pitch, was having a lovely chat to the bench. Park’s resolute defence and aggressive rucking earned a penalty that was put in to touch. From the lineout the Park forwards showed their intent with a 40m maul, the inevitable penalty was again put in to touch. Despite another ferocious drive Park could not ground the ball.

U16's v Billingham

Billingham 5 - Percy Park 66

Park haven't been travelling very well this season and were set up for a tricky fixture away to our old friends at Billingham. The weather was cold but great for running rugby with the Billingham pitches standing up well to recent conditions.

Due to injury and a few cry offs Park only had 16 players available leading to a few positional changes: Ross came in to start at hooker, well deserved after his recent performances off the bench, and Adam moved from hooker to inside centre fancying himself as some sort of Sam Burgess character, captain Ben moved from his normal 10 to 15 with Seb taking the fly half slot.
