Ponteland 8 - Percy Park 68

Park travelled to Ponteland on Sunday to play the current Northumberland Shield holders in a dress rehearsal of their pending cup-tie. Ponteland were short of a few players so Dan, James Mc and Joseph C deputised for Ponteland in the 1st half.

Almost from the kick off Park were in the ascendency, driving hard at the Ponteland line. Tries followed at regular intervals Ciaran in particular causing chaos every time he got the ball; Marcus make it two tries in two games with another spectacular long range effort on the wing.

Park did not have everything their own way, the Ponteland No8 and 10 in particular posed a constant threat and only some aggressive tackling, particularly from Mark, prevented a score. Late in the half Ponteland scored a penalty goal to register their 1st points.

At half time Park welcomed back their Ponteland debutants with Harry and James S making the shift in to maroon. From the whistle Park were on fire, Morgan, receiving the kick off, created a hole for Joe to tear through and score. To prove it was not a fluke Park repeated the same thing from the next kick off and from the third drove forward with Morgan again providing a lay off to enable Daniel to dive over for three tries without Ponteland touching the ball.

Ponteland were not to be denied and after a series of forward drives James smashed through his Park teammates to register a score for Ponteland.

Throughout the game the Park backs were an absolute menace: defensively aggressive and attacking with cohesion and force. Whilst the Park players and coaches were delighted with their performance they know that it counts for nothing and that Ponteland will be a different proposition in a couple of weeks…
