Blyth 14 – Percy Park 27

Park ran out winners 5 tries to 2 but were never in a position to relax against a determined and well organised Blyth team.

Park started well and dominated possession for the first 10 minutes; however their inability to hold on to the ball (silly passes and poor technique) meant Blyth were always threatening particularly their back row which had the upper hand at the breakdown.  From one such spilled ball Blyth swept up field and scored under the posts 7-0.

This seemed to shake Park up a little and using their dominance at the scrum and lineout they began to make some meaningful inroads in to Blyth territory. From a lineout the ball was taken on by the forwards and eventually Morgan crashed over for the try 7-5.

From the restart Park drove forward; however slow ball hindered any fluent back play and the game was mainly played between the 10m lines with neither side in the ascendency. Towards half time Park stole another lineout and Morgan, popping up on the 10s shoulder romped in for his second try 7- 10.

HT.

Park made changes to the back row and scrum half positions at half time and the results were immediate, Park kicked long caught the receiver in possession and stole the ball; Niall made ground before the ball was shipped to Seb who crossed near the posts – Kyle adding the conversion 7-17.

Reese, providing a livewire service from 9, broke blind the ball was transferred to Josh who scorched around the opposition for a great winger’s try 7-22. Injuries forced Park in to a reshuffle: James returned at 9, James S replaced Morgan and Ciaran replaced Jamie on the wing.  Park then scored the try of the game – from a lineout the ball was spun wide quickly recycled and Ross was on hand to dummy and go over from 25m 7- 27.

Blyth came back harder than ever and their determination paid off when with a couple of minutes to go their sustained pressure resulted in a try under the posts.
