U16's v Ponteland

E-mail Print PDF

Ponteland 0 Percy Park 36

Park expected a hard game and got exactly that…

For the first 15 minutes of this tough but sporting encounter there was little between the two sides. Ponteland’s ability to play the game right on the offside line, combined with Park’s inability to comply with the laws resulted in a stop start game which suited the home side.

Unable to fully utilise their backs it was left to the forwards to bash away at Ponteland. Mighty Mark registered a brace of tries: the first from a pop off a ruck the second a mighty effort from a rare Park penalty.

Ponteland held firm at 0-10 for some time before a sweeping move saw Alex outpace the defence for a great wingers try. Not to be outdone Dan then broke through a maul on the 22m line and outpaced the defence for a touchdown.

Park started the second half brightly, however, on average, they were being penalised every 3 minutes of the game which prevented them from building any kind of tempo. Ciaran once more showed his value when he outpaced the Ponteland defence and superbly gathered Ben’s kick to score. This was followed by a try from Joe – using his pace and power to barrel over from a 5 m scrum.
The game ended with Ponteland on the front foot; however Park defended valiantly and saw out the game without conceding a point.

As predicted after the previous meeting this was a far tougher game. We wish Ponteland all the best in their quest to retain the Shield
