Park win opening League encounter!

E-mail Print PDF

Percy Park Colts 36 - 12 West Hartlepool Colts

The opening game of the league season was eagerly anticipated as West have always proved to be stern opposition. Unfortunately for them, they only turned up with 15 bodies as they have a massive problem with not being able to get people out of bed on a morning!

Having said that, Park suffered in the same way with only 17 out of 27 boys in the squad turning up. Paul Spowart deputised from the Under 17 team and again, showed a good steady head on his shoulders as he played at both 10 and 13.

For those who did turn up (eventually!) the rustiness of poor numbers at training was evident but, the benfit of many of the team having played together for many years soon dropped in and for a period of the first and second half some quite good rugby was played. The opening try came for Karl Scott taking a quick penalty close to the line. The conversion was made. They scored next and it remained 7 - 7 for some time. The next try saw 6' 5" debutant, Mark Hall power over. I cannot remember who scored for us as I lost my pen, but i do remember debutant Max Smith going over for a try, along with Austin Phillips and Joe Wafer. Apologies to thsoe I have not mentioned.

Mark hall adapted to life in the front row well which allowed the Park coaches to utilise Joe Wafer in the back row.

The game fell apart a little in the last 10 minutes but by that time it was won. Next week we travel away to Seghill. It will be a difficult encounter as it is upto us as a side to remain focused and play rugby.

Traning on wednesday night. Please attend.
